Orchid Epidendron Ibaguense is also known as ‘crucifix’ orchid. The orchid shown below is a ‘crucifix’ orchid (Epidendron ibaguense).
This orchid grows ‘wild’ on the mountain and many sprays of its orange or mauve flowers can be seen during its long flowering period. Ants which feed on the nectar in the flowers help in pollinating them.
Orchid Epidendron Ibaguense is native to Central and northern South America (Mexico to Columbia) with red, mauve, purple, salmon and yellow hybrids. These orchids can be easily grown in Bangalore and Mysore.
