Many rivers and streams leap, bounce and fall in the exotic hills of the western ghats. River Bedti is one of them, which cascades as Magod falls. It is situated 17 Kms from Yellapur in Uttara Kannada (North Karnataka) district. Magod falls is amidst hills covered in green and the falls looks like Capuccino (light coffee) flowing with full force, churning froth along the way. It is very near to Magod village. River Bedti starts from Unkal Lake in Hubli and joins the Arabian Sea at Gangavali.
Take the Yellapur-Karwar Highway (NH-63) and reach Yellapur, after about 1.5 Kms from Yellapur take a left turn and continue to drive further into the pristine hills and forests leading to the falls. The view of the falls is from the opposite hill, and as the falls is at a lower level you get a very fine view of the waterfalls. The height of the waterfalls is around 650feet and it falls in two steps. Very near to the falls is Jenukallu Gudda (7 Kms), which is a sun set point where you can enjoy the sun setting among the hills. Another place that you can visit is the Kavadi Kere/Lake, which is 9 Kms from Magod falls. These places are ideal for a day outing or if you are on a long drive to Goa, Ankola or Karwar beach then it is a perfect place to take a break and visit the falls.
The place is extremely remote and lonely, so it is better to visit during daytime with packed food and water. Now, there is a caretaker near the entrance who doubles up as the tea maker and shop keeper selling snacks. He also issues the entrance tickets.
