A snack prepared using winter beans also called as flat beans. This beans is available during winter in Mysore and Bangalore regions. A cup of coffee along with Avarekayi Chivda sets up for a perfect evening.

Ingredients:
2 Cups Avarekayi/Flat Beans
Oil for deep frying
¼ Cup Groundnuts / Peanuts
¼ Cup Fried Gram
¼ Cup Dry Coconut slices
Few Curry Leaves
1tsp Red Chili Powder
A pinch of Ingu/Hing/Asafoetida
1tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste
Method:
Soak Flat beans in water for 30 minutes. Squeeze out the skin out of each of the bean. Dry them on a cloth.
Deep fry the beans.
Fry them until they are crisp.
Remove them on a paper towel. Fry Groundnuts, Fried Gram, Curry leaves, and Dry coconut separately and keep aside.
Add Avarekayi, deep fried ingredients, Salt, Chili Powder, Hing, and Turmeric Powder. Mix well.
Remove to a serving dish and serve hot with filter coffee.
In Bangalore, Mysore region, during Avarekayi season (Nov – Dec – Jan), this mixture would be made in almost all homes and come evening, people would gather after a siesta and play indoor games like Mancala (aluguli mane), pagade (type of ludo), and chowka bara enjoying the mixture with piping hot filter coffee.
Store Avarekayi Chivda in dry airtight containers.
