This is an all time favorite snack. The flattened rice is deep fried and mixed with spices.
Time Required: 20 Minutes
Ingredients:
500gms thick Avalakki/Poha/Flattened Rice
Oil for Deep-frying
1tsp Mustard Seeds
50gms Groundnuts
25gms Fried Gram
¼ Cup Dry Coconut pieces
2 Green Chilies, Chopped finely
25gms Dry Grapes
25gms Cashew nuts
1tbsp Yellu/Til/Sesame Seeds
1tbsp Khus Khus/Poppy Seeds
Few Curry Leaves
3 – 4 Balaka/Dry Stuffed Green Chilies
1tsp Red Chili Powder, Optional
A pinch of Ingu/Hing/Asafoetida
½tsp Turmeric Powder
1tsp Sugar
Salt to taste
Method:
Deep-fry Avalakki and remove on a paper towel. Roast Sesame seeds and Khus Khus and keep aside. Heat Oil, and on low flame fry Groundnuts and remove them and keep aside, fry fried gram for 20 seconds and remove similarly fry Dry Coconut, Balaka, Cashew nuts and keep aside. Now, add Mustard seeds and when they splutter, add Chilies, Curry leaves and Hing. Let it cool.
In a big mixing bowl add deep-fried Avalakki, the fried and roasted ingredients and mix well. Add the seasoning, Sugar, Dry grapes and Salt and mix well in hand. Store in dry airtight containers.
