Lakshmi (goddess of wealth) pooja / ritual is performed on all the Fridays of the Hindu month of Aashada, July-Aug in Gregorian calendar. This year (2020) Aashada starts on 22nd June and the Ashada Shukravara (Fridays) in Ashada are 26th June, 3rd July, 10th July, and 17th July (2020). Click here for festival dates.
On Ashada Shukravara (Friday) the idol or photograph of Lakshmi is worshiped with flowers, arishina / turmeric powder and kumkum / vermilion colored powder. Lakshmi sahasranam / 1000 names of goddess Lakshmi is recited throughout the pooja. It is believed that if Lakshmi pooja is performed on Fridays in the month of Ashada will bring prosperity and success to the family. On this day women are invited over and are given auspicious items like arishina / turmeric powder and kumkum / vermilion colored powder, flowers and betel leaf with nuts, coins, coconut and fruits.
