River Varada originates from this place and hence the name Varadamoola. It is situated in the Western Ghats of Karnataka 6 Kms from Sagara, Shimoga district. Varadamoola is remote and is picturesque. The place is also called as Theertha grama (holy water village). Many temples are situated in this place along with two Kalyani / holy water tank from where the Varada River bubbles out.
The river flows through the Western Ghats and enters Banavasi, Haveri and Bellary districts of Karnataka and joins the main river Tungabhadra at Galaganath. The river is a major source of drinking water for the people living on the banks and dams have been constructed along the river’s course to provide water for irrigation and domestic purposes during the summer months.

The Varadadevi temple and Sooryanaraya temple along with other shrines are situated in this tiny adorable hamlet.
Wild plants and beautiful colored flowers create a natural landscape.
Nearby interesting places are Ikkeri, Keladi, Jog Falls, Varadahalli, Gudavi Bird Sanctuary.

Please post more information on “Lord Dattatreya” if u can get the same or have any idea.. Like the stotras n their meanings.. I feel it is more important to pray Dattatreya as he is a combination of Lord brahma, vishnu and shiva and there could be less differences between smarthas, madhwas and iyengars if all prays him.. 🙂

I know that the people of Sagara are ardent devotees of Sri Sridhara Swamiji and Durga. There is a temple in Ikkeri dedicated to Aghoreshwara and a temple dedicated to Rameshwara in Keledi. I am not aware of any other temple in Sagara. Please let me know if you come across this information.
