A side dish prepared using tender stem of Banana plant in Karnataka style.
Time Required: 20 Minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
1 foot long Banana Stem
Few Curry Leaves, Chopped
2 Sprigs Coriander leaves, Chopped
6 – 8 Green Chilies, Slit or Chopped
½ Cup Freshly grated Coconut
2tbsp Oil
2tbsp Kadalebele / Bengal Gram
1tsp Uddinabele / Black Gram Split
1tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste
Method:
Discard the outer layers and chop the thick inner cylinder finely. Heat Oil and add Kadalebele and Uddinabele and when they turn pink, add Mustard seeds.
When Mustard seeds splutter, add Curry leaves, Green Chilies, Turmeric Powder.
Add Banana Stem. Stir for a minute and add Salt. Add a cup of water and close the vessel.
Open the lid and if the water has evaporated, add Coconut and Coriander leaves and mix well. Remove to a serving dish.
Serve with Anna-Saaru (Rice-Rasam) or Chapathi or Phulka.
