When we planned for the Andaman and Nicobar islands trip, I knew very little about what food is available for tourists and was very apprehensive. But all my fears were put to rest when I landed on the Islands and found that vegetarian food is available in plenty. It is really fun place for shopping and eating out in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Fruits like wild Banana, Ram Phal, Noni furit is a must try as they are grown here. The other imported fruits are also available. All types of vegetables are available both locally grown and shipped from the mainland.
In Port Blair, Annapoorna restaurant serves excellent vegetarian food.
Tender Coconut to quench the thirst is available all around.
Snacks and other cool drinks are also sold at all tourist locations.
High end resorts serve North India, Chinese, Continental, South Indian, and so on.
Fine dining in Barefoot Bar and Brasserie, Havelock Island served lip smacking Continental food.
Another portion of this restaurant serves North Indian food.
For shopping you can go to Aberdeen Bazaar where there are various shops selling sea shell, jute, beads, and wood based handicrafts.
The government run Sagarika Emporium in Port Blair houses various handicrafts made of cane, coconut shell, wood, and sea shells. Pearl jewelry is another item on the list.
Ensure that you get a proper bill for the shells and corals that you buy as you may have to produce them on demand at the airport or at the sea port.
Nicobari mats are also popular.
