Menasalu is a pepper curry with Milk. This is a typical dish from the region of Shimoga, Karnataka.
Time Required: 10 Minutes
Ingredients:
2tbsp Menasina Saarina Pudi / Pepper Masala Powder
1 Glass Milk
1/2 Glass Water
1tbsp Ghee / Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Jeera / Cumin Seeds
1 or 2 Red chilies, broken
Few Curry leaves
A pinch of Turmeric
A pinch of Hing / Asafoetida
Salt to taste
Method:
Heat Oil or Ghee and add Mustard Seeds, Jeera and when they splutter add Hing, Turmeric, Curry leaves, and dry Red Chilies.
Add water and Milk and bring to a boil.
Boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
Remove to a serving dish.
Garnish with Coriander leaves and serve hot with plain rice or rice shavige.
You can also serve Papad and Sandige / Fryums to go with Rice and this Menasalu / Pepper Rasam.
