Apple Swan

Apple Swan

A Swan carved from an Apple is sure to woo bird watchers to the buffet table.

Materials Required:
1 Red Apple
2 Cloves
Knife
Chopping Board
Lemon Juice
Few Toothpicks

Method:
Cut off a slice from one side of the Apple, about halfway between the core and the outer edge, to make a flat base. Apply Lemon juice on the exposed flesh to prevent it from getting discolored.

Keep aside.

Cut out a small wedge from one side. Make two cuts on both sides of the wedge about one-eighth from the outer edge, and cut out another slice.

Repeat the above process twice. Do not remove the slices, but make sure that they are cut through. You now have four slices that telescope into each other.

Carefully ease out the slices. Apply Lemon juice and telescope them back together again. Repeat the entire procedure on the other side of the Apple. You have now made wings on both sides of the fruit.

From the first reserved slice, carve out the head and neck of a swan.  Attach skin of Apple as beak.  Poke the cloves as eyes.  Place the apple flat on its base, and position the neck of the swan on the top towards the stem end (the broader side of the apple) using a tooth pick.

Now, open out the telescoping slices half an inch apart and place them back in the spaces on either side to give a wing-like effect.
