Gejje Vastra is a string prepared using cotton. This is offered to Gods and Goddesses during festival pooja/ritual after the abhishekha (bathing the idols) as a representation of cloth.
Materials Required:
Cotton
Milk
Turmeric Powder
Kumkum/Vermilion colored powder
Method:
Remove the seeds from the cotton puff as shown below.
Using the palms of both the hands gently shape the cotton into a long thick pipe as shown below.
Now gently using your forefinger and thumb pull out a centimeter from it without actually cutting it. Now, the pulled thin portion can be twisted tight using the fingers as shown below. Repeat the same and the length can be as much as you like. The Gejje is ready.
Now cut a length of the cotton string and make two lines string as shown above.
Using milk, Turmeric powder or Kumkum decorate the string in between.
For the Vastra, make two small flat discs out of the cotton and soak in Turmeric or Kumkum milk. Squeeze out the excess moisture and press each one on either side of the Gejje.
Now, Gejje Vastra is ready to offer to Gods as shown below.
