Rice cakes known as Idli is very famous in South India. As there is an abundance of Jackfruit trees, the sturdy leaves of this tree is used to make cubs to hold the Idli batter and steam them to get Idlis. The Jackfruit leaves cups are known as Kotte.
Materials required:
You will need 4 same-sized Jackfruit tree leaves to make one Kotte (cup)
Tooth picks or any thin sticks (bamboo or coconut leaf sticks) to hold the leaves together
Method:
Wash the leaves and the sticks and dry them out.
Take two leaves and arrange like below on a flat surface.
Keep another leaf vertical to the two leaves as shown below.
Pin them together using the stick.
Add another leaf as shown in the picture below.
Fold the leaves leaving a base and pin on the edges of the leaves to form a cup.
Trim the stems and the Jackfruit leaf cups are ready to use to make Kotte Kadabu also known as Kotte Idli or Gunda .
