Moss grass stem is very useful to support climbing plants, the roots will be able cling on to the moss stem as they climb up. Plant species like Scindapsus, Philodendron, Monstera and Syngonium are common climbers used as pot plants, which can be kept indoors with moss grass stem as support.
Materials Required:
1 – 3 to 3 ½ foot-long plastic conduit pipe (used to conceal electrical wiring in the building)
2 – 700gms of Moss Grass (Will be Available in any of the nurseries or garden shops)
3 – 3 feet X 3 feet wire mesh (Chicken Mesh)
4 – Few meters of Steel Binding Wire
5 – Cutting Plier
Method:
Place the wire mesh on a flat surface. Then, spread the moss evenly on it. Place the conduit pipe at the center. Leave about 6” of the pipe at the bottom free from moss and wire mesh as this part has to be pitched into the flowerpot. Roll the wire mesh in such a way that the pipe stands upright at the center of the cylindrical column. Leave the sides of the wire mesh overlapping about 1” on each other. Stitch the sides together with the Steel Binding Wire. Stuff the top portion of the pipe with Moss to conceal the head of the pipe. The Moss Grass Stem is ready to use.
Fix the free end of the pipe in the center of the pot. Then, plant the desired vines of plant around the stem about 3” deep and entwine them on the vertical column.
Care:
Always keep the Moss and the soil in the pot wet by watering it daily. Pour water gently at the top of the stem so that it seeps through the moss to the bottom of the stem.
