Zinnia

Zinnia

For a dash of color in the garden, grow the annual shrub Zinnia.  Native of Mexico, the botanical name is Zinnia elegans and belongs to Asteraceae (Sunflower) family.

Zinnia grows to a height of 4 inch to 40 inch.  The leaves are green, rough, opposite, linear to ovate, and without a stalk.
The flowers bloom in single or double and look like a daisy on a single erect stem.  Zinnia blooms in a wide range of colors.  The flowers attract butterflies.  Cut flowers are used in flower arrangements.

Propagation:
Zinnia is propagated from seeds.  It is one of the easiest plants to grow.  It grows fasts and blooms heavily. Plant the seeds directly in flower bed or pot. Water daily.  Prune the plants often for more abundant blooms.
