Orchid Dendrobium Herbaceum is endemic to Western Ghats and is often referred to as Pencil Dendrobium or Grassy Dendrobium. This epiphyte belongs to Orchidaceae family.
The stem is pendulous and looks like cane and grows to a height of 3 feet. The lower parts of the stems are without leaves and tips of the stems are covered with grass like leaves.
It has the smallest flower in the Dendrobium genus. Herbaceum flowers are white around 0.5 to 0.8 cms. The flowers last for several weeks. As the flowers are minute, it is not popularly cultivated.
They are found at elevations of 700 to 1300 meters.
I have seen the plants very high on trees and hence was unable to take picture of flowers.
