Kaffir Lily

The other common names of Kaffir lily are Bush Lily, Clivia Lily, St. John’s Lily, Boslelie, and Fire Lily.  The botanical name is Clivia miniata and belongs to Amaryllidaceae (Nargis) family.

Kaffir Lily is native of South Africa.  It is a perennial bulbous plant with strap-like leaves and beautiful orange-red flowers. Lady Charlotte Clive was the first to cultivate and flower this specimen in England.  The genus Clivia was named after the Duchess of Northumberland.

This is very popular as an indoor plant.  The flowers are trumpet shaped and bloom copiously during spring.  It also flowers intermittently throughout the year.  

The plant can be propagated by seeds or the bulbs.  Kaffir lily is easy to grow and is very popular among gardeners.
