Avalanche Lake, also known as Avalanchi lake is situated in South India’s Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu.
In the early 1800s there was a huge landslide due to heavy rainfall that occurred in this region and hence the lake got its name.
A drive to the lake is memorable as the landscape is covered in greenery and flowering trees like Magnolias and Rhododendrons dot the area. You can also spot Orchids on trees along with ferns.
If interested, you can fish in the lake by borrowing fishing rods and accessories from a trout hatchery situated near the lake.
Visitors can camp near the lake by pitching their tents. Other activities include rafting and trekking in the hills. The Upper Bhavani region is covered by thick forests. There is a presence of wild animals in the forests. It is better to take a guide and get proper forest permits before venturing into the forests.
Many species of exotic birds can be spotted in this region.
