The beaches of Pondicherry are another attraction for visitors to the city. The sun rise in the early mornings and the fisherman returning to shore in the evenings are best enjoyed by the sea.

As the beaches are situated a little away from the city, they are clean and not very crowded. November to January is the best time to be on the beaches. Many of the Anglo-French battles were fought on the sands and sea of Pondicherry.
