Big Foot Goa also known as ancestral Goa is situated in Loutolim is a center for Art, Culture & Environment started by Maendra in 1995. Big Foot Goa has taken shape on a 9 acres hillock and there are various sections with models and artifacts depicting the day-to-day activities of villages in Goa. Guides will take you from one section to the other explaining about it in English.
The first section is a depiction of a comfortable house with a manual fan, palanquin, grandfather clock, porcelain plate wall hangings, hats, lamp shades, umbrellas and other paraphernalia, which will transport you to an era gone by.
Maendra’s sculpture of Meerabai (an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna) is carved on a single laterite is also part of the museum. He completed sculpting in a record time of one month. This feat has been recorded in the Limca book of records.
The open space is planted with Badam/Almond, Pineapple, Cinnamon, Mulberry, Mango and other plants and trees.
The main attraction here is “The Big Foot”. An imprint of a big human foot was discovered on a rock and it is believed to bring good luck to anyone who stands on it.
The process of extracting Feni the local alcohol drink is also depicted.
A typical Goan village temple is modeled to perfection at this place.
Many study groups; school students and tourists visit this place. A small handicraft and souvenir shop is set up inside the museum. A complimentary drink of Kokum juice is offered to the visitors. The ticket fee was Rs.50 per head in October 2008.
You can also visit Salvador Da Costa Mansion, a heritage building situated next to Big Foot.
