The most fascinating fact of Puttenahalli Lake is that though there is no water in the lake, it still attracts innumerable birds to the lake.

The bed of the lake is dry but you can find dozens of Jungle Myna, Common Myna, and Rosy Starling pecking at something they have found delicious.

Raptors swoop in once in a while to prey on this group of birds and you can watch the birds resting on the bed fly to the safety of the date tree and the Singapore Cherry tree on the island.

As the saying goes “Birds of same feather flock together”, you can observe that the birds stick to their species when they fly to safety.

The presence of birds despite no water in the lake proves that it is not just water that attracts migratory birds, but the conducive environment that makes them flock to the lake.

Though many aquatic birds have abandoned the lake, you can spot few loyal ones like the Purple Heron, Pond Heron, Purple Moorhen, Wood Sandpiper, and Water Hen.

One can imagine the number of birds that this lake can host if it was filled with water.

Hope it will fill this year with blessings from rain god and the hard work by the committed people of PNLIT.

Wishing only the best for the volunteers and the PNLIT leaders.
