Roads leading to Catherine falls wind through the Nilgiri hills between tea estates and pine forests. The drive offers excellent views with the mist playing hide and seek.
The water cascades from 250 feet amidst green forests. The best view enjoyed is from Dolphin’s nose view point. The falls is also accessible from Kotagiri side. This view is closer to the falls. The waterfalls after reaching the plains form the upper stream of the Kallar River.
The falls is named after the wife of M.D.Cocburn who was a pioneer coffee planter in Kotagiri and Yercaud. Gaddhehaadahalla stream falls down as Catherine falls.
