When I heard the name of the falls I felt like humming the good old Hindi song “Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu…Chin Chin Chu.. baba Chin Chin Chu…..” from the film Howrah Bridge sung by Geetha Dutt. Chunchi falls is situated en-route to Mekedatu 16kms before Sangama the confluence of Arkavathi and Cauvery rivers. From Bangalore it is approximately 85 Kms. River Arkavathi gracefully cascades down the rocks. It is good to visit this place during monsoons.

From Bangalore drive down Kanakapura road to reach Yelugiri village, here on the left side of the road is an arch with a signboard welcoming you to Chunchi Falls; turn to the left, the falls is about 5 Kms drive from this place. There is a place to park the vehicles under a tree with unauthorized local folks collecting parking fees. The next 1 Km from here has to be trekked downhill on foot, hopping on rocks and boulders, walking on paths lined with huge bushes on both sides and crossing sparkling streams with pebbles. Walking to find the hidden falls is extremely rejuvenating.

Chunchi falls is a confluence of two streams, which falls like a huge water jet down the rocks. The depth of the falls is unknown, but the beauty and grace is awesome with rocks, hills and forests surrounding it.

Makes a perfect place to picnic if weather permits. Visit Mekedatu, which is situated close by.
