An island on river Cauvery solely dedicated to training captured Elephants and providing information on Elephants to enthusiastic tourists is Dubare Elephant Camp. This island is part of Dubare forest range situated in Madikeri district, 15 Km from Kusahlnagar.
Dubare Elephant Camp is the initiative undertaken by the forest officials and Jungle Lodges who have set up dormitories, restaurant and other facilities for tourists to stay and learn more about the Pachyderms and become aware of the need to conserve and protect these beautiful creatures. The Elephants participating in the world famous Mysore Dasara festivities were all trained in this beautiful surroundings.
After parking your vehicles, a motorboat will take you to the island where your tryst with adventure and Elephants starts. The tourists can have a first hand experience of feeding, riding and bathing the elephants with a forest official guiding you patiently.
The other attractions at Dubare Elephant Camp are river coracle ride, rafting, wading in the water, trekking, fishing etc.,
Prior booking is essential to enjoy the facilities provided by Jungle Lodges. They have 10 comfortable cottages on the island and power is provided only in the mornings and evenings.
