Eating out in Rajasthan

Rajasthan cuisine is unique to the region.  The scarcity of water and the lack of vegetation has made the Rajasthanis adopt to cooking in Oil, Ghee or Milk.  After roaming the Palaces and Forts, it is time to taste the different dishes churned out in the Rajasthani kitchens.  The options of eating out in Rajasthan is many from street to fine dining.   We were adventurous and tried out all types of vegetarian dishes and  I relished every morsel of the various dishes that was served.

Street food like Chaats, Papad, Fafda, Lassi, Kulfi were on my wishlist during our visit.

The other dishes I tried was Ker Sangri served with Missi Roti, Kadhi Pakodi, Khichdi, Papad Sabzi, different varied of pickles, Rajasthani Jain Thali, Mirchi Bada, Ghewar, Bikineri Savories, Samosa, Kachori and so many more mouth watering dishes.

We took a walk in old Udaipur streets and were surprised to find Bhang shops, delighted to see old sweet meat shop selling Lapsi, Mawa Kachori, Gulab Jamoon, Moong Dal halwa, Gajar Halwa, Sev, Kachori, Kheer, Jalebi…..it is a paradise for people with a sweet tooth.

Jain thali, Dal Bhati Churma Thali and Rajasthani Thali are wholesome and tasty.

North India is the only place in the world where tea is cooked with an assortment of spices.  It tastes and feels great to sip on this tea basking in the winter sun.

Jodhpur dry red chilies are very popular and it is really hot and sets your tongue on fire.

Variety of chutneys are prepared to be served with the various type of breads prepared.

After all this food, the Churna/digestive shopping would be very ideal. The wide range of Churna available here is mind blowing. You have sweet, sour, salty digestives made of Gooseberry, Ginger, Pomegranate, Jeera/Cumin, Asafoetida/Hing, Mango, Tamarind, etc.
