As we drove back after visiting the 5 temples at T.Narasipura to Mysore, we took a left at the 16th mile and eagerly drove to Giri-Bettada Kere (Hill Lake).
The lake was shimmering and had sufficient water. One of the inlets to the lake is from Varuna Canal.
The Varakodu scrub forest provides the perfect background for the lake. Rs. 54.60 Lakh was spent to develop this lake. Giri-bettada Kere is spread over 3100 acres. Villages that are benefited from this are Duddagere, Hosahalli, and Koppegaalu.
Many aquatic birds dotted the island on the opposite bank.
We spotted Pond Heron, Open billed strokes, Cormorants, Egrets, and Painted Strokes.
Other birds were Pipit, Warblers, and Spotted Dove. We walked on the lake bund and took pictures to our hearts content.
The edges of the lake were dotted with Bulrushes and Water Snowflake plant and flowers.
