Gumbaz is situated in Srirangapatna and is the mausoleum of Tiger of Mysore – Tipu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali and his mother Fathima Begum. The Gumbaz Srirangapatna stands out against the background of the beautiful green Lalbagh Gardens.
The Gumbaz was built by Tipu Sultan around 1782-1784. It is built on a raised platform and has open balcony supported by black basalt pillars. The tomb door are intricately carved and engraved with ivory. The tomb itself is imposing and large.
Tombs of Tipu’s relatives are in the verandah.
