One early morning we decided to drive to Hadinaru village to visit the Hadinaru Kere (lake) as we had heard that a large number of bar headed geese had ascended on the lake all the way from Mangolia.
Hadinaru village is a tiny and clean village complete with a school, temples, and well laid roads.
The villagers are friendly and are aware of the large number of winged friends their lake is home too. On the outskirts of the village in the fields we spotted Black Ibis, their red crown standing out in the green background.
Parked the car at one end and started walking on the lake bund taking in the various winged birds on the lake. Some flew away from the bund as they saw us approaching, some too busy diving in for food, some cackling and preening themselves, some standing in penance on one foot, and some flying over in flocks.
After scanning the lake with the binoculars we concluded that all the bar headed geese had all headed back to their original place, Mangolia 10,000 Km away.
Presence of hundreds of other aquatic birds and shore birds made up for the absence of the Bar Headed Geese.
We came home a happy lot loaded with pictures. Next year we are sure to go hunting to Hadinaru Kere for the Bar Headed Geese with our cameras.
