Jodhpur

Jodhpur is the second largest city in the state of kings, Rajasthan.  It was formerly the capital of the kingdom of Mewar.  Jodhpur is known as Sun City, because of the weather being sunny throughout the year.

The city is also known as Blue City, because of the blue-painted houses in the old city.

Tourists throng this place to explore the palaces, forts, temples and to shop and eat.

History:
Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a Rajput chief of the Rathore clan. Jodha founded the state of Marwar.  The capital was shifted to Jodhpur from Mandore during the rule of Jodha. Since the city was strategically located, it enhanced the trade between other states.

The merchants in this region are known as Marwaris. The Gorwar region of Marwar was populated by Oswal Jains. The state of Marwar merged into India in 1956. Wheat and Chilies are the main crops of Jodhpur. Jodhpur has training center for Indian Army, Air Force, and Border Security Force.

Tripolia bazaar, Sarafa bazar, Sardarpura Market, Sojati Gate, and National Handloom is the place to eat out and shop when in Jodhpur. An amazing variety of mouthwatering food is available in Jodhpur. When food is served in Jodhpur, the first item that is to be eaten is the sweet. Many sweet shops line the main market of Jodhpur. Many other eateries serve chats, mirchi vadas, kachoris, Makhaniya lassi, Panchkuta and so on. The choice is unbeatable. Mathaniya’s Red chilies, which are famous in Jodhpur is also a good buy.

 

Bandhini material is a must buy when in Jodhpur. National Handloom, which is a government owned shop on the main streets of Jodhpur has a wide variety of  Bandhini (tie and dye) sarees, duppatta, and dress material.
