The Baha’i house of worship known as Lotus temple was built in 1986 and is situated in Bahapur village in New Delhi.
The temple with its unique architectural design and a complementing landscape surrounding it attracts many visitors from around the globe. The Lotus temple was designed by Fariborz Sahba. The temple is in the shape of an open lotus flower. The temple height is 34.27 meters and the diameter is 70 meters. 1,300 people can be seated in the central prayer hall.
The white building behind the green lawns is majestic and striking. There are 27 marble clad petals arranged in groups of three to form nine wings. The nine doors on each of the wings open into a central hall. The floor is laid with white marble procured from Penteli Mountain in Greece.

Lotus temple is open to people from all religions as per the Baha’i laws. People of all religions may read their holy books and scriptures inside the hall but no musical instruments can be played inside the temple. Displaying of pictures or statues is prohibited inside the hall.
