Nahargarh fort was built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. It is built on one of the hills of the Aravalli at 600 feet above Jaipur city in Rajasthan.
The fort is being renovated and the sight of Jaipur city from the terrace of the palace inside the fort is breath taking. Nahargarh means the place of tigers; hence the kings used this palace as a hunting residence.
There is another story that Nahargarh was named after Prince Nahar. It is believed that his spirit still haunts the fort.
This fort along with Amber and Jaigarh fort offered security for the city from invaders. During the Sepoy mutiny in 1856, Nahargarh fort helped the Europeans to hide from the furious mutineers.
The view of Pink city is the best from this fort. On a clear day, Jantar Mantar, City Palace, Race Course are visible from the hill. You can see these in the picture below.
Houses and lanes looks like building blocks arranged in order. The view of Jal Mahal from the fort is mind blowing!
