Pine forests in Kodaikanal is a must visit for people who love trees. Pine trees are not native to South India. The British in South India were missing these trees and they started growing them in favorable hill stations of South India. So, you can see these trees in Ooty, Coonoor, Yercaud, and Kodaikanal.
In Kodaikanal the forests were started by 1908 by a forest officer from Madurai, H.D.Bryant. He is also credited to have started the Bryant botanical gardens here.
Along with afforestation, the wood was valuable and can be used for building and making furniture. The floor is covered with dried leaves and cones. These make it slippery to walk on the slopes and adds to the fun.
It is nice to walk, run, or dance around the pine trees and take pictures.
