One of the most majestic residences of India is the Rashtrapathi Bhavan, New Delhi. It is the residence of India’s honorable President. Rashtrapathi Bhavan took 17 years to build and was inaugurated in 1931.
The sprawling estate occupies 350 acres of land. Architect Edwin Landseer Lutyens built Rasthrapathi Bhavan in the Indo-European style of architecture. The area where this building resides is known as Lutyens Delhi in honor of the architect. 14 million rupees was spent to build this grand place.
The Mughal Gardens are thrown open to the public once a year in March and I was lucky to have visited and enjoyed the display of a variety of flowers in different size, shape, and color.
Rashtrapathi Bhavan has 9 tennis courts, 14-hole golf course, polo ground, cricket ground, durbar hall, ball rooms, state dining halls, state sitting rooms, and 340 rooms.
The building is 4 storied with a floor area of 200,000 square feet. It is not surprising that it is the biggest presidential home in the world.
The whole place is high security area. People are allowed only to drive up to the huge iron gates.
