The Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ambalavayal is a haven for horticulture enthusiasts. It is a place where research is conducted on spices, fruits, vegetables, and hill paddy.
In 1946, the research station also known by the short name RARS was established by the Madras Government. The officials were gracious to send a person along with us for a tour of the research station.
I could see Cardamom plants in bloom, Mangosteen tree, Malayan Apple tree in full bloom, Clove tree, exotic Orchids, Lychee Tree, Rambutan Tree, and so many other trees.
The research station is located at 974 meters above sea level with mild subtropical climate. It is spread over 87 hectares.
Currently the station has taken up a research on the specific problems of horticulture and spice crops.
A shop in the research center sells spices, bamboo rice, and other items grown in the research center.
There is a nursery selling all types of flowering and foliage plants.
