The classic European style Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall was built in 1915 in Bangalore. Sir K. Sheshadri Iyer was the Dewan of Mysore state from 1883 to 1901. Built in his honour the building has Tuscan and Corinthian columns.
The building is the most iconic part of Cubbon Park. The red building built using red brick and mortar contrasts with the lush green surrounding. The building started housing State Central Library from 1915. There are 2.65 lakh books from 0830 to 1900 including a braille section. The collection includes literary classics that are not found anywhere in India. It is a delight to get immersed in the books for historians.
This library has received Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation Award for the best state central library in India in recognition of its outstanding contribution to meritorious services rendered in the spread of knowledge and gearing up of library movement in the city of Bangalore in particular and in the state of Karnataka in general.
