T stands for Tirumakudalu and in short referred to as T Narasipura. Tirumakudalu or Trimakuta means the place of confluence of three rivers.
In T Narasipura, Rivers Kaveri, Kabini, and Spatika Sarovara (mythical lake) merge and continue to flow as Kaveri. Due to this it is a very sacred place for Hindus and is mentioned in the Skanda Purana. It is also known as Dakshina Kashi.
The presence of prehistoric sites unearthed by the department of Archeology has proved that T. Narasipura has been inhabited over many centuries. Rivers flowing within the region have ensured that the land around is fertile for civilizations.
To add to the sanctity of this place is the presence of five Shiva Linga (Pancha Linga), and they are, Someshwara, Markandeshwara, Gargeshwara, Agsthyeshwara, and Hanuman Linga.
Since 1989 Kumbha Mela is celebrated on a grand scale in line with the Kumbha Mela celebrated in Allahabad and Nasik. During this time thousands of people congregate to take a dip at the confluence of the three Rivers.
