Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari was established in 1988 and is located 15 Kms north-west of Shimoga on the way to Sagar.
It is a wild life park with wild animals like tigers, lions, leopards, and sloth bear etc., left to roam in fenced natural surrounding. The whole park covers an area of 200 hectares of thick forest.
There is also a small zoo with panthers, birds and other animals and is maintained very well by the forest department.
A children park is maintained in the zoo for the children to enjoy. It is a popular picnic spot for people living in the surrounding areas.
The safari can be best enjoyed in the jeep safaris conducted by the forest department. Apart from the wild animals the thick green jungle itself is very inviting and beautiful with deciduous trees and other small shrubs.
I found an interesting tree called the spindle tree here. Wild flowers like pink and white mallow, yellow small star flowers and many unidentifiable flowers had bloomed all over the place.
