A visit to the Botanical Garden in hill stations is top on my to-visit list. And off we went to explore the Botanical Garden in Yercaud.
The garden though small is interesting as it is tucked on a hill slope with exotic plants in natural surroundings. I mean, it is not a prim and proper pruned botanical garden, it is more like walk in the forest.
Yercaud Botanical Garden was launched in the year 1963 across 18.4 hectares. 3000 trees and 1800 shrubs are an asset to the garden giving a very forest feel.
The most interesting part is the collection of 250 types of Orchids in the Orchidarium, and they were to our delight few in bloom.
Another fascinating plants on display were the carnivorous plants – Pitcher plant. Neelakurunji plants were also part of the collection though not in bloom as they bloom once in 12 years.
This is a perfect place to learn about the various flora and take pictures.
You can see many other plants in bloom like Fuchsia, Gladiolus, Lilies, and so on
The tall trees with thick trunks have stood the test of time.
If you love plants, then you must visit and spend some time here.
