Avarekayi Idli – Flat Winter Beans Steamed Cakes – Papdi Lilva Idli Recipe

Avarekayi Idli

Avarekayi Idli is steamed rice cakes with flat beans also known as winter beans.

Cuisine: South Karnataka
Time required: 10 minutes + soaking and fermenting time

Ingredients:
1 Cup Urad Dal / Split Black Gram
2 Cups Idli Rava / Idli Rice
1 Cup cooked Avarekayi
Salt to taste

For the Masala:

1/2 Cup grated fresh coconut
1 tsp Jeera
2 – 3 Green Chilies
Few sprigs Coriander leaves

Method:
Soak Urad Dal for 3 hours. Grind it to a batter. Add Idli Rava to the batter and mix well. Add water if required. Keep it aside for 6 to 7 hours.

Grind the ingredients for the masala to a paste. 

Add the masala, Avarekayi, and Salt to the batter.  Mix well.

Pour the batter into Idli molds.  Steam in a cooker for 10 minutes.

Remove from cooker and let it cool for 2 minutes.  Remove from molds.  Serve hot with Coconut Chutney and Sambar.
