A dish prepared using Poha/Flattened Rice. Vaggarane Avalakki is extremely tasty and much sought after to be prepared for breakfast.

Ingredients:
4 Cups Avalakki/Thick Flattened Rice/Poha (Two varieties are available one is thin and the other thick)
1 Onion, Chopped finely
1tsp Bengal Gram
1tsp Urad Dal (Black Gram Split)
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
Few Curry Leaves, Chopped
5 Green Chilies, Chopped finely
1tbsp Lemon Juice
1 Cup Fresh Coconut
2tbsp Coriander Leaves, Chopped finely
½ tsp Sugar
Salt to taste
Method:
Soak Avalakki in water for 20 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
Heat Oil in a kadai/pan, add Bengal Gram, Urad Dal and Mustard Seeds. When the Mustard Seeds starts to splutter and Bengal Gram and Ural Dal turns pink add, Curry leaves, Green Chilies and Onion.
Fry until Onion turns translucent. Add Turmeric Powder.
Add Salt, Lemon Juice and the soaked Avalakki and mix everything together. Now, add Coconut, Coriander Leaves, Sugar and more Lemon juice if required and mix everything together.
Remove to a serving dish and serve hot.
