Vengayam Chutney is served all over Tamil Nadu along with Idli or Dosa.
Time Required: 10 Minutes
Ingredients:
1 Cup fresh Coconut, grated
¼ Cup Chopped Onions
1tbsp Bengal Gram Dal
1tsp Urad Dal/Split black gram dal
4 – 5 Dry Red Chilis
1tbsp Oil
½tsp Mustard Seeds
Few Curry leaves
Salt to taste
Method:
Heat ½ tsp Oil and fry Bengal and Ural Dal until they turn pink. Similarly fry Red Chilies in little Oil. Remove and grind with Coconut, Salt and Onions to a paste. Heat the remaining Oil and add Mustard Seeds and when they splutter add Curry leaves. Remove from flame and let it cool. Add this to the chutney and mix well. Serve with Dosa, Idli, Chapathi/Roti/Phulka or Rice.
