Tomorrow is Mahalaya Amavasya and Sukkina Unde is usually prepared on this occasion.

Time required: 30 Minutes + Soaking time
Ingredients:
1 Cup Urad Dal / Uddinabele / Split Black Gram
1/4 Cup Raw Rice
A pinch of Salt
Oil for deep frying
For the stuffing:
2 Cups of Fresh Coconut, Grated
1 Cups Jaggery, Grated
1/2 tsp Cardamom Powder
1/4 tsp Roasted Sesame Seeds
Method:
For the stuffing:
Add the Coconut and Jaggery in a thick-bottomed pan. Keep stirring on a low flame until all the moisture evaporates and the color of the mixture becomes a bit dark. Add Cardamom and roasted Sesame seeds. Remove to a bowl and keep it aside to cool.
Divide it into lemon-sized balls.
For the outer layer:
Soak Urad Dal and Rice for two hours. Grind both together to a thick batter and keep it aside.
Heat Oil.
Dip each of the balls into the batter and deep fry until golden brown.
