Tomorrow is Dwadashi and a very special one during the Hindu month of Karthika as today is the celebration of the Tulasi plant known as Uttan Dwadashi festival (Holy Basil Festival). On Dwadashi days, Brahmins who fast on the previous day to Dwadashi known as Ekadashi break the fast on Dwadashi day with this Ganji. A very tasty Ganji, can be prepared any other time and enjoyed.
Ingredients:
1 Cup Raw Rice
1½ Cups Coconut Milk
2tsp Oil
1 tsp Jeera / Cumin Seeds
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
Few Curry leaves
2 Green Chilies, Slit
Salt to taste
Method:
Cook Rice with 7 cups of water in a cooker. Remove the cooked rice to a thick-bottomed pan. Let it cook for a minute or two. If too thick, add a glass of water. If too thin, cook for a longer time until you get the right consistency.
Heat Oil in another pan and add Mustard Seeds and when they splutter, add Jeera, Curry leaves, and Green Chilies. Pour this over the Ganji.
Mix well.
Remove to a serving dish.
Serve hot with pickle or gojju.
