Halasinakayi Palya – Raw Jackfruit Stir Fry – Chakka Thoran

Halasinakayi Palya is a south Indian side dish prepared using raw Jackfruit.

Ingredients:
250gms Raw Jackfruit
3 Green Chilies
Few Curry Leaves
1tbsp Coriander Leaves
1 Cup Fresh Coconut, Grated
1 Lemon sized Tamarind soaked in water
3tbsp Oil
1tsp Bengal Gram/Channa Dal
1tsp Urad Dal/Black gram split
1/2tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2tsp Turmeric Powder
1tsp Jaggery
Salt to taste

Method:
Chop Jackfruit finely and slit the Green Chilies. Heat Oil, add Bengal Gram, Urad Dal and when they turn a light pin, add Mustard Seeds and when they start spluttering add Turmeric Powder, Curry leaves and Green Chilies. Add Jackfruit and mix well, add little Tamarind water and continue to cook stirring continuously. Keep adding Tamarind water at regular intervals and cook until the pieces turn soft. Add water if needed. Add Salt and Coconut and remove to a serving dish. Serve hot Halasinakayi Palya garnished with Coriander leaves.
