A side dish prepared using Bitter Gourd and Potatoes. This dish is very popular in West Bengal.
Time Required: 20 Minutes
Ingredients:
2 Alu / Potatoes
1 Karela / Bitter Gourd
2tbsp Oil
½ tsp Jeera / Cumin Seeds
½ tsp Saunf / Aniseed
1tsp Chili Powder
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
Juice of ½ Lemon
Salt to taste
Method:
Peel and chop Potatoes into 1cm X 1cm pieces. Chop Karela into thin strips or small pieces. Heat Oil and add Jeera and when they splutter add Saunf, Turmeric Powder and the chopped vegetables and stir fry for a minute. Close the vessel and cook for another minute on low flame. Open the lid and add Salt, Lemon Juice and Chili Powder, mix well. Close the lid and cook until the vegetables are soft.
Remove to a serving dish and serve with your choice of Indian Bread and Raitha.
