Tomatokayi Palya – Raw Tomato Stir Fry Recipe

Tomatokayi Palya

Raw Tomato and Onion side dish.  The tanginess of the raw tomatoes gives a unique taste to this dish.  Raw tomatoes start arriving in the markets around January every year.

Cuisine: North Karnataka

Time Required: 20 Minutes

Ingredients:
6 medium sized Raw Tomatoes
2 Onions
1tsp Chili Powder
1tbsp Oil
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
Few Curry leaves
A pinch of Turmeric powder
½ tsp Sugar or Jaggery
¼ Cup Fresh Coconut, Grated
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Salt to taste

Method:
Chop Tomatoes and Onions into big pieces. Heat Oil, add Mustard seeds and when they splutter add Turmeric powder and Curry leaves. Add Onions and stir until they turn translucent.

Add the Tomatoes.

Add Chili powder and Sugar.

Mix well.

Cook for 3 minutes and add Coconut and mix well.

Remove to a serving dish. Garnish with Coconut and Coriander leaves.

Serve hot Tomatokayi Palya with Roti, Rice or Chapathi.
