This is a Bengali dish with lots of vegetables. This is prepared on weddings and other celebrations like Durga Pooja during Dasara.
Time Required: 30 Minutes + Soaking Time
Ingredients:
1 Carrot
1 Raw Banana
1 Potato
1 Karela / Bitter Gourd
Few Beans
1 Brinjal
1 Drum Stick
2tbsp Oil
1tsp Panch Phoran
1” piece Ginger, Grated
2 – 4 Green Chilies, slit
3 tbsp Milk
¼ tsp Sugar
Salt to taste
For the paste:
2tsp Mustard seeds
1tbsp Poppy Seeds
¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
Method:
Peel Potato, Carrot and Raw Banana and chop into pieces. Chop Drum Stick, Brinjal and Bitter Gourd.
Soak Poppy Seeds for 30 minutes. Grind Mustard Seeds, Poppy Seeds and Turmeric Powder to a paste and keep it aside.
Heat Oil and add Panch Phoran and when they splutter add the vegetables and sauté for 3 minutes. Add Green Chilies, Masala paste, Sugar and Salt and mix well. Add Milk and 2 cups of water and cook until the vegetables are soft.
Remove to a serving dish and serve hot with plain Rice or Indian Bread.
