Modaka is a sweet dish, which is a favorite of Lord Ganesha. This is prepared on festivals or rituals dedicated to Lord Ganesha like Ganesh chathurthi, Sankanshti, Gana Homa/Havan etc.
Time Required: 40 Minutes
Ingredients:
Oil for deep frying
For the filling:
1 Cup Sugar Powder
½ Cup Dry Coconut, Grated
2tsp Chopped and fried Cashew nuts
1tsp Raisins
¼ tsp Cardamom powder
2tsp Roasted Gasagase / Poppy Seeds or Sesame seeds
For the outer layer:
1 Cup Choroti Rawa / Fine Semolina
1tsp Akki Hittu
1tsp Ghee / Clarified Butter
Method:
Mix the ingredients for the filling in a bowl and keep it aside. Mix the ingredients for the outer layer with water and knead to a dough. Cover the dough and keep it aside for an hour.
Divide the dough into marble sized balls. Roll out each one into concentric circle. Put a spoonful of the coconut mixture and shape into a modaka.
Deep fry until golden brown.

Tried this out yesterday on accnt of Ganesha chaturdashi and came out very well.. 🙂 added 2 tspns of maida too to the dough.
