Avocado or Butter fruit chutney could be a surprise entry for the party menu.
Cuisine: South Indian
Time Required: 15 Minutes
Ingredients:
1 cup Avocado pieces (Avocado should be firm not very soft)
2 – 3 Red Chilies
1 Tomato, Chopped
4 – 5 Garlic Pods
4 Shallots
1tsp Oil
Salt to taste
For the seasoning:
1 tbsp Oil
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Urad Dal / Black Gram Split
Few Curry leaves
Method:
Heat 1tsp Oil and fry Garlic, Shallots and Red Chilies. Grind Avocado, Red Chilies, Garlic, Shallots, Salt, and Tomato to a paste. Remove to a dish.
Heat 1tbsp Oil and add Urad Dal and when they turn pink, add Mustard Seeds and when they splutter add Curry leaves. Add this seasoning to the chutney and mix well.
Serve with Idli or Dosa or Crackers and Bread Sticks.

Avacado is available in stores like M.K.Ahmed, 4th Block Market, Nilgiris, and Russel Market. Avacado is also known as Butter fruit and I do not know the Kannada equivalent.
