Kurtkoti is my maternal grandparents place, which is a village in North Karnataka, where most of my summer holidays were spent with fun, food and freedom. This Spicy crunchy flattened rice snack is a favorite among the residents as breakfast, snack or dinner.

500gms Avalakki / Flattened Rice

Did not know about this kind of avalakki dish. It sounds wonderful!
Hi Shantha,
My grandmother used to make the most awesome spicy avalakki and was trying to find the recipe forever. Thanks for posting this recipe..brings back happy memories. I think we also add chatnipudi or saarupudi to make it spicy.
Our village is near Raichur/Gulbarga and we have some common cuisine.
Thanks once again
Krishna
Hi Krishna,
Glad to know that this recipe took you down the memory lane. Yes, while serving this avalakki, chutney pudi is also served for folks who need more spice. Curds is also eaten along with this avalakki.
Thanks for giving your feedback,
Regards,
Shantha
Which avalakki should v use???the ‘thin one or the thick one??
Hi Arathi,
Please use thin avalakki though few people in North Karnataka prefer this with medium avalakki, which is available there.
For beginners, thin avalakki would be easy to chew.
Let me know how it turns out.
Regards,
Shantha
