Cauvery flows into Chunchanakatte falls roaring thunderously forming a 60 feet height and approximately 300 to 400 feet wide waterfalls. This place is situated 57 Kms from Mysore in Krishna Raja Nagar (K.R.Nagar) taluk, Mysore district. When the river reaches to cascade, it gets divided into two separate falls and joins again to continue to flow as one into Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) dam.
The roar is deafening and the spray from the Chunchanakatte falls is refreshing. The gushing of water from every nook and corner of the rocky bed forms a milky white falls and the brown colored water in some parts of the falls shows the fertility that Cauvery brings along with her to the deccan plateau. At one angle you can see a large quantity of water whoosh to about 10 feet away from the jutting rocky bed before cascading into the river displaying the force at which it flows. This force is well tapped here and there is a hydraulic power generating station installed. Chunchanakatte falls is in its best form during monsoon, but during seasons where there is less inflow of water, you can climb onto the rocks and explore more.
From Mysore, drive down Mysore-Hassan highway and reach K.R.Nagar. Here, any of the locals can guide you to Chunchanakatte falls. It is approximately 8 kilometers from K.R.Nagar.
There is an ancient temple built here dedicated to Lord Kodandarama here.
Many water and shore birds can be spotted here. The place has been beautified and a view point is constructed in 2021 time frame. There are benches all around and the place is very clean.

This is my favorite spot during my childhood. We used to go to Chunchunkatte for car festival and play in the falls exploring all the rocks, and climbing and jumping.
Never forget those days. Even today, when I visit K.R.Nagar(my home town), and get time, i do visit this falls as well as Hale Yedathore.

The water fall is also known as Danushkoti.
As the name suggests ( Katte), there is an old anecut across the river, just before the fall constructed by Mysore King Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar (1673–1704) and the canal known as Ramasamudram nala led off from this dam has a course of 41 miles runs up to old yadatore town and helps cultivating over 4000 acres !
As you have stated a Mini Hydro Electric station by Graphite India is functioning at the same place.

Hi Shantha, We are planning for a one-day family trip from bangalore ( abt 50 members ) and the places in my mind are chunchanakatte(CK) falls and Yedatore. Please suggest if there are any places to sit and chit-chat with all the family members, spending some good time. Also We need some place to have food( probably getting it from Bangalore).
Please suggest if yedatore and CK falls are a good option as there are people of different age, right from 8yrs to 70yrs.. 🙂

Perfect choice of place for a one day trip for all ages. Yedathore temple is right on the river side. You can probably lunch there. Chunchankatte is a good place too with a waterfalls and an ancient temple.
Better to carry food and water as there are no good restaurants around. Tender coconut and bananas are sold near these places.
The only drawback I see here is that there are no rest rooms 🙁

Chunchana katte bagge bahala chennagi barediddera .This is my native from all sides(appa,amma,ganda)this is a very beutiful place Raj film chalisuva modagalu has been shot here.But one sad thing is it is not developed as a tourist place .I feel there shoul be some rest rooms ,toilets ,drinking water etc.

The utsava murthy, which is in the temple was given to the temple by my grand father. I hope to visit the place again very soon.

Hi Shantha, hows the water flow now in Yedatore? Is it advisable to get into the water there? One of my friends suggested to go to “Japada katte”, 45 kms ahead of yedatore to get into the river. I heard Yedatore is unsafe for water-play. Is that the case ?
Another info needed is – Are the roads big enough for a 50 seater BUS?

I live in Bangalore Vikki, so I do not know about the situation in Yadatore and also I do not know how safe it is to play in water. Water in uncontrolled environment is always unsafe, take precautions.
Yeah, the road is the state highway, so it is big enough for a Bus.

Hi Shantha, I’am from Mysore, Chunchunkatte is a beautiful place, the first time I went with my friend Nigel was by Bicycle in 1998 all the way from Mysore, I have been there many times by motorcycle after that, I hope to take my wife there sometime soon..do u know where is “JapadaKatte” as spoken about in the above comments?
